Richard Peyzaret (born March 31, 1946 – died April 10, 2018) was a talented French artist. He was known by his pen name, F'Murrr. He created many popular comic books, especially the long-running series Le Génie des alpages.
F'Murrr's Amazing Journey
F'Murrr loved comics from a young age. He admired famous artists like Hergé (who created Tintin) and André Franquin. He studied art in Paris for six years. Later, he met people in the French comic book world. This led him to work for Pilote magazine in 1971. His first work there was a funny series called Contes à Rebours.
In 1973, while working at Pilote, F'Murrr started his most famous comic series. It was called Le Génie des alpages, which means 'The Genius of the Mountain Pastures'. This comic is about two shepherds, their talking dog, and a group of very silly sheep. They all live in the mountains and do unexpected things. When Pilote magazine stopped printing, the stories were made into comic albums.
F'Murrr also worked with other French comic magazines. He created Naphtalène for Pilote and Porfirio et Gabriel for Le Canard Sauvage. His comic Jehanne d'Arc appeared in Métal Hurlant. He also made Robin des Boîtes for Fluide Glacial. For Spirou magazine, he created Les Mirrois de Marguerite and Ala et Lolli.
Some of F'Murrr's comics were translated into English. They appeared in magazines like Heavy Metal and National Lampoon in the late 1970s.
His famous series Le Génie des alpages was also popular in other countries. Eight albums were published in Norway in the 1980s. They were called Ullkorn, which is a clever play on words. It combines 'wool' (ull) with 'gold' (gull). The first four albums were also published in Denmark. There, they were called "Fårfængelighedens marked", which means 'Sheep's Vanity Fair'.
