The Provisional Government of the French Republic (PGFR) was a temporary government in France. It was set up after France was freed from German control during World War II. This government ruled France from 1944 to 1946. It helped France get back on its feet after the war. The PGFR prepared the country for a new, stable government. This new government was called the French Fourth Republic.
