Fabián Estapé facts for kids
Fabián Estapé Rodríguez (born September 14, 1923 – died February 1, 2012) was an important Spanish economist. He was born in a town called Portbou.
Estapé is known for introducing the ideas of famous economists like Joseph A. Schumpeter and John Kenneth Galbraith to Spain. He was a highly respected professor at the University of Barcelona. There, he served twice as the "rector," which is like being the head or vice-chancellor of the university. He also taught at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and was the Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Barcelona.

Helping Spain's Economy
Fabián Estapé played a role in the Spanish government. He was a special advisor for the "Plan de Desarrollo" (Development Plan). This plan aimed to improve Spain's economy during the time of Generalisimo Francisco Franco. He was an influential official during this period of economic growth.
His Books and Studies
Estapé wrote many important books and articles. Some of his well-known works include:
- La reforma tributaria de 1845 (The tax reform of 1845) from 1971.
- Ensayos sobre historia del pensamiento económico (Essays in the history of economic thought) also from 1971.

Changing Views
During the later years of the Franco government, Estapé began to support different political ideas. He shifted his views towards more left-leaning social and political groups. These included the Workers' Commissions and the Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia. In 2008, he publicly expressed regret for his earlier work with the Francoist government.
Fabián Estapé passed away in León at the age of 88.
