What is the Fair Brocket?
The fair brocket is a deer that scientists are still learning about. It was first described in 2015. It's called a "possible species" because more research is needed. Scientists need to confirm if it is truly a unique type of deer. This happens when animals are very rare or hard to study in the wild.
What Does It Look Like?
The fair brocket has a special look. Its fur is mostly light brown. On its sides and belly, the fur becomes almost white. This light color helps it stand out from other brocket deer. For example, some other brocket deer have deep reddish-brown fur. Others might have dull yellowish or grayish-brown fur. The fair brocket's unique light color helps scientists identify it.
Where Does It Live?
This deer lives in the amazing Amazon Rainforest. This rainforest is a huge and important place. It is full of many different animals and plants. The fair brocket prefers the south-central part of the Amazon. Specifically, it is found near the Aripuanã River in Brazil. This area is very wild and has thick forests.
Why is it a "Possible" Species?
When scientists discover a new animal, they need to study it carefully. They look at its body, its DNA, and its behavior. If it's different enough from other known species, they declare it a new one. For the fair brocket, more studies are needed to be absolutely sure. This is why it's called a "possible species." It means scientists are still working to confirm its status.
