Fairfield Football Club started playing in the 1884–85 season. At first, they played at a "Junior" level. This meant they were part of the Scottish Junior Football Association, which was for smaller or developing clubs.

Winning the First Junior Cup

In the 1886–87 season, Fairfield joined the very first Scottish Junior Cup competition. They played really well, winning several matches. They made it all the way to the final game!

The final was against a team called Woodburn from Edinburgh. Fairfield was playing great and was winning 4–1. But with only 15 minutes left, Woodburn's team walked off the field. They were upset about a goal and thought the referee was being unfair.

Even though Woodburn protested, the game was played again. Fairfield proved they were the better team and won the replay 3–1. This made them the very first winners of the Scottish Junior Cup! The next year, they won two more local junior competitions in Govan.

Moving to Senior Football

By the end of the 1888–89 season, Fairfield was playing so well that they faced a "Senior" club called Linthouse in a cup final. Senior clubs were bigger and more established. Fairfield tied the game 2–2, which was a great result for a junior team.

Because they played so well, Fairfield decided to become a Senior club themselves. In August 1889, they officially joined the Scottish Football Association. This meant they could play in bigger competitions like the Scottish Cup.

Their first game as a Senior club was a big win, 6–0, against Hamilton Academical. But their first Scottish Cup match was tough. They lost 7–2 to Linthouse, even though they were winning 2–1 at half-time. They also lost their first Glasgow Cup game.

Later Years and End of the Club

In the 1890–91 season, Fairfield won their first Scottish Cup match. They beat Motherwell Shamrock 7–3. However, they lost in the next round. Their Glasgow Cup run also ended quickly that year.

After 1891, Fairfield Football Club stopped playing competitive Senior games. They entered the Scottish Cup for the next few years but always pulled out before playing any matches. They didn't join the Glasgow Cup or other local competitions again. The club was officially closed down in August 1894 by the Scottish FA.

Team Colours

Fairfield Football Club wore dark blue shirts and shorts.

Home Ground

The club first played their games at a place called Lorne Park. Later, in 1888, they moved to Argyle Park. This ground had been used by other football teams before Fairfield.
