The name "Fairport" has a simple and pleasant origin. The people who first settled the area thought the surroundings were very beautiful and "fair." This led them to choose the name Fairport for their community. A post office was opened in Fairport in 1869. It served the community for many years, helping people send and receive mail, until it finally closed in 1965.
