The Farallones del Citará is a stunning mountain range in Colombia. It's found in the southwest part of the Antioquia region. This special area is very close to the border with the Chocó region. Two important rivers, the Citará River and the Atrato River, flow through this beautiful landscape.

Discovering Farallones del Citará
The Farallones del Citará mountains are part of a large protected area. This area is a forest reserve that covers more than 75,000 acres of land. That's a huge space, bigger than many cities! About 45,000 acres of this land are untouched, old-growth forests. The government has set aside 30,000 acres as a special "buffer zone." This zone helps protect the forests from people cutting down trees.
Even with all this protection, some people live in the area. There are also places for eco-friendly tourism. This means visitors can enjoy nature in a way that helps protect the environment.
High Peaks and Cool Climates
The mountains in Farallones del Citará reach different heights. The highest point is about 13,320 feet (or 4,060 meters) above sea level. At these higher elevations, it can get very cold at night. Sometimes, it even snows! But in the lower parts of the mountains, the climate is much milder and pleasant.
Amazing Wildlife
This region is home to many different kinds of native birds. Two of the most famous birds you might see here are the chestnut-bellied flowerpiercer and the Andean cock-of-the-rock. These birds are known for their unique colors and interesting behaviors. The Farallones del Citará is a great place for birdwatching!
Getting There
The Farallones del Citará are located about 10 miles (16 kilometers) southwest of a town called Ciudad Bolívar, Antioquia. They are also about 48 miles (77 kilometers) southwest of Medellin, Antioquia, which is a much larger city. Most people who want to explore these southwestern mountains start their trips from Ciudad Bolívar.
