The Story of Fargo's Names
Fargo has had a few different names over the years! It was first called Olmsteadville. This name came from Francis C. Olmstead, who helped plan the community in 1838. When a community is "platted," it means someone draws up a map showing where the streets and building lots will be.
Later, the community's name changed to Morton's Corners. This new name came from a family named Morton who owned a store there. Eventually, Morton's Corners became known as Fargo.
Fargo's Post Office
A post office was opened in Fargo in 1893. This was an important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for several years before it closed in 1904.
