The FIDM Museum is a special place in Los Angeles, California. It was started in 1978 to help students at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) learn about fashion. It's also open to anyone who loves clothes and textile art! The best part? It's completely free to visit.
What You Can See at the Museum
The museum is located on the ground floor of the FIDM campus in Los Angeles. It has a huge collection of over 12,000 items. These include costumes, accessories, and textiles. You can see fashion from the 1700s all the way to today.
The museum also displays amazing costumes from movies and theater. It even has a special collection of early Hollywood costumes. These are on loan from the City of Los Angeles. Every year, the museum hosts an exhibition of costumes from popular movies.
Perfume Collection
On the second floor of the museum, you'll find the Annette Green Perfume Museum. This is a permanent exhibit. It's a great place to learn about the history of perfumes.
A New Name for the Museum
In April 2023, the FIDM Museum got a new name. It is now called the ASU FIDM Museum. This change happened because Arizona State University (ASU) expanded its fashion program to include FIDM.
