The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) is a special private college. It is located in downtown Los Angeles, California. FIDM teaches students all about fashion and design.
The college started in 1969. Tonian Hohberg was its founder and leader. In 2023, FIDM joined with Arizona State University (ASU). Now, it is called ASU FIDM. This partnership helps more students learn about fashion. They have programs in Los Angeles and Phoenix, Arizona.

What You Can Study at FIDM
FIDM offers many exciting programs. Students can earn different types of degrees. These degrees help them start careers in fashion and design.
There are 26 programs for an associate degree. This is a two-year college degree. You can also get a Bachelor of Science degree in business management. This degree teaches you how to run a business. You can even study this online! FIDM also has nine Bachelor of Arts degree programs. For those who want to learn even more, there is a master's degree in business.
FIDM is approved by a group called the WASC Senior College and University Commission. This means the college meets high standards. It also belongs to the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
FIDM Campuses
The main FIDM campus is in Los Angeles. It has modern buildings and cool study areas. There is also a special design studio. The FIDM Museum and Galleries are also on this campus.
In the past, FIDM had other campuses. These were in San Francisco, Orange County, and San Diego. The San Francisco campus was in Union Square.
The FIDM Museum
The FIDM Museum is located at the Los Angeles Campus. It has a huge collection of fashion and costumes. These items are from the 1800s all the way to today.
The museum shows both permanent and temporary exhibits. You can see costumes and designs from old Hollywood movies. There are also pieces from theater and current TV shows and films. The museum's collection has over 15,000 items. These show more than 200 years of fashion history. You can see fancy haute couture and everyday clothes. There are also international outfits and film costumes.
