Fashion Week Cleveland was an exciting yearly event all about fashion. It took place in Cleveland, Ohio. The event started in 2002 and ran for 15 years, ending in 2017. It was created by Donald Shingler to help improve downtown Cleveland. The event worked closely with the Cleveland Fashion Institute.
What Was Fashion Week Cleveland?
The very first Fashion Week Cleveland in 2002 was a private event. It was organized by Donald Shingler, who was a cosmetic dentist.
This fashion event grew to be very important. It was the third-largest fashion show of its kind in the United States. Only New York Fashion Week and Los Angeles Fashion Week were bigger. This made Fashion Week Cleveland a great place for new American fashion designers to show their work. Famous designers like MoMo Falana, who designed for "... and the City", and Wendy Pepper showed their collections there.
Around 2010, the event became a bit smaller. This was because people were spending less money on fashion at that time. In 2014, Nichole Reed became the artistic director, guiding the event's creative side. After 15 years, the Fashion Week Cleveland shows stopped in 2017. A new one-night event called GlamJam Fashion & Music Festival took its place.
Some students from the Kent State University Fashion School also got to show their amazing designs at the event.
