Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Fegley is a small, unincorporated community located in Adair County, in the state of Missouri, United States. An unincorporated community is a group of homes and buildings that are part of a larger county but do not have their own local government, like a mayor or a town council. Instead, they are governed by the county. Adair County is found in the northern part of Missouri.

A Glimpse into Fegley's Past

Fegley was named after an early settler in the area, a person named Avid Fegley. For a short time, Fegley even had its own post office. This post office opened its doors in 1899. Post offices were very important back then for people to send and receive letters and packages. However, the Fegley post office did not stay open for very long. It closed down just eight years later, in 1907. This often happened in very small communities if the population didn't grow, or if people moved away.
