What is the Feldkirch Poetry Prize?
The Feldkirch Poetry Prize, also known as Feldkircher Lyrikpreis in German, was started by Erika Kronabitter. She is an artist and writer from Austria. The prize is given out every year by the Theater am Saumarkt in Feldkirch, a town in Vorarlberg, Austria.
Many different groups help support this prize. These include the Austrian government and local authorities in Vorarlberg. Private banks also help fund the award. The very first poetry prize was given out in 2003.
How Does the Prize Work?
Poets from all over the world are invited to send in their poems. The poems must be written in German. A group of experts, called a jury, reads all the poems. This jury is made up of German language experts and other poets.
The winners are announced and presented to the public every autumn. It's a chance for everyone to hear the winning poems. The texts from the winning poets are kept safe in the Library of Vorarlberg. This way, their amazing work can be read for many years to come.
