Ferdo Godina (born October 17, 1912 – died July 14, 1994) was a famous writer from Slovenia. He was also a partisan, which means he was part of a group fighting for freedom during World War II.
He was one of the first people to speak out against the Hungarian army taking over the Prekmurje region of Slovenia during the war. Ferdo Godina wrote many books and short stories. He was especially known for his wonderful stories for children and young adults.
Godina was born in 1912 in a village called Dolnja Bistrica. At that time, this area was part of a large empire called Austria-Hungary. Today, it is part of the Prekmurje region in Slovenia.
In 1941, he joined the partisans to fight for his country. He mostly wrote short stories that often felt very personal, as if he was talking directly to you. He also published many books just for young readers. Ferdo Godina passed away in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 1994. A local cultural group, the Bistrica Cultural Society, is named after him.
In 1974, Ferdo Godina won a special prize called the Levstik Award. He received this award for his collection of children's stories titled Sezidala si bova hišico, which means "We Shall Build a House."
