Fernando Morena Belora is a famous former football player from Uruguay. He was born on February 2, 1952. People often called him "Nando" or "Potrillo," which means "Colt" or "young stallion." Fernando Morena was an amazing striker, which is a player who focuses on scoring goals.
He is known as the top goal scorer ever in the history of the Uruguayan Primera División, which is Uruguay's main football league. He scored 230 goals in 244 games in that league. Throughout his nearly 20-year career, he scored a total of 268 goals!

Fernando Morena's Club Career
Starting Out in Uruguay
Fernando Morena began his professional football journey in 1968 with Racing Club de Montevideo. After playing there for a year, he moved to another team in Montevideo, River Plate. He played for River Plate until 1972, showing off his skills as a young player.
Becoming a Star at Peñarol
In 1973, Morena joined Peñarol, one of Uruguay's biggest football clubs. This is where he truly became a legend. In his first time playing for Peñarol, he helped the team win the Uruguayan Primera championship four times! He was also the top scorer in the Uruguayan league for six years in a row, from 1973 to 1978. He even led in goals for the Copa Libertadores (a big South American club tournament) in 1974 and 1975.
Playing in Europe and Returning Home
In 1979, Fernando Morena went to Spain to play for Rayo Vallecano. He stayed there for one season before moving to Valencia in 1980.
Morena then returned to his beloved Peñarol in 1981. His return was a huge success! He helped Peñarol win two more Uruguayan league titles in 1981 and 1982. They also won the Copa Libertadores in 1982 and the 1982 Intercontinental Cup, which was a match between the best teams from Europe and South America.
Final Years in South America
After his second time at Peñarol, Fernando Morena played for Flamengo in Brazil in 1983. In 1984, he played for Boca Juniors in Argentina. He finished his amazing professional playing career back at Peñarol in 1985.

Playing for Uruguay
Fernando Morena first played for the Uruguay national team on October 27, 1971. In that game against Chile, Uruguay won 3–0, and Morena scored his first goal for his country. He was part of the Uruguayan team that played in the 1974 World Cup.
He played a total of 54 games for Uruguay and scored 22 goals. This makes him one of the top goal scorers in the history of the Uruguayan national team.
Injury and Copa América Win
On September 4, 1983, Morena got a serious leg injury while playing for Uruguay against Venezuela in the Copa América. He never played for the national team again after that injury. However, he is still considered a part of the Uruguayan team that won the Copa América in 1983.

After he stopped playing football, Fernando Morena became a coach. He coached several teams in Uruguay, Spain, and Chile.
