About the Ferrée River
The Ferrée River is about 10.3 kilometers (about 6.4 miles) long. It's not a very big river, but it's an important part of the local water system.
Where does the Ferrée River start and end?
The river begins its journey from Lake Litalien in the area of Sainte-Louise. From there, it flows until it reaches the mighty St. Lawrence River. The point where it joins the St. Lawrence is in the municipality of Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies.
What are the Ferrée River's branches?
Rivers often have smaller streams or rivers that flow into them. These are called tributaries. The Ferrée River has a few of these:
- On its left side (if you're looking downstream), it gets water from streams like ruisseau de la Côte des Chutes and ruisseau Francoeur.
- On its right side, it's joined by Le Bras and the Joncas River.
What does 'Ferrée' mean?
The word "toponymy" is the study of place names. The name Rivière Ferrée is French. It was officially given to this river on December 5, 1968. This decision was made by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is a group in Quebec responsible for naming places.
