The Joncas River (which is rivière Joncas in French) is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows entirely within the town of Sainte-Louise. This town is part of the L'Islet Regional County Municipality, which is in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
The Joncas River is important because it forms the beginning of the Ferrée River. The Ferrée River then flows about 10.3 kilometers (6.4 miles) north. It eventually reaches the south bank of the mighty St. Lawrence River. The spot where the Ferrée River meets the St. Lawrence is near a small village called Village-des-Aulnaies. This village is located between La Pocatière and Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies.
How the Joncas River Got Its Name
The name "Joncas" for this river was officially recognized on December 5, 1968. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec. This commission is a group that names places in Quebec.
