Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer (born in 1912 in Figueres, Spain – died on December 27, 1967, in Barcelona) was a brilliant Spanish mathematician. He is remembered today because a special award in mathematics, called the Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Prize, is named after him.

Ferran faced big challenges from the very beginning of his life. He was born with severe physical disabilities. Because of this, doctors advised that he should not go to a regular school. Just 18 days before he passed away, on December 9, 1967, a special group called the Divisió de Ciencias Matemá, Médicas y de Naturaleza officially announced him as a scientific member.
