Festival Park Iowa facts for kids
Festival Park is a super fun place in Des Moines, Iowa. Part of it is also in Pleasant Hill. It's like stepping back in time to an old English Village!
Festival Park: A Trip to Old England!
Festival Park is a special event center designed to look just like a village from old England. Imagine walking through streets with about 50 buildings that look like they're from a storybook! There's even a huge castle front that makes you feel like royalty.
What Fun Events Can You Find Here?
Festival Park first opened its doors in 2006 during the Labor Day Weekend. The very first big event was the Des Moines Renaissance Faire. At this fair, people dress up in costumes from the past, like knights, princesses, and jesters!
Since then, Festival Park has hosted many other exciting gatherings. You might find:
- A fun Iowa Pumpkin Fest and Harvest Fair in October.
- A country music festival called the Wild West Music Fest.
- The Hollowood Film Festival, where movies are celebrated.
- Special Halloween events, like one held in 2007.
Sometimes, people also use Festival Park for special occasions. It's a popular spot for weddings and even company parties!
Where is Festival Park Located?
Festival Park is built on about 18 acres (that's about 73,000 square meters) of land. It's located just east of the Iowa State Fairgrounds, near Sleepy Hollow Sports Park.
It's not the only cool themed park in Des Moines! While Festival Park takes you to 16th-century England, another park called Living History Farms shows what life was like in 19th-century America. Both parks offer a unique way to learn about history and have a great time!
