The Fiat Punto is a popular car that has been made by the Italian company Fiat since 1993. It's known as a "supermini" car, which means it's a small car, but still big enough for everyday use. Over the years, there have been three main versions, or "generations," of the Punto.

The First Fiat Punto (1993-1999)

The first version of the Fiat Punto, known as the Type 176, was made from 1993 to 1999. This car was designed to be practical and fun to drive.

Models of the First Punto

The first Punto came in different styles to suit various needs:

  • Fiat Punto 55 rot

    A 5-door hatchback, which has five doors (two on each side plus the back hatch).

  • Fiat Punto rear 20071204

    A 3-door hatchback, with two doors on the sides and the back hatch.

  • Punto gt

    The Punto GT, a sportier 3-door hatchback.

  • Punto Cabrio Bertone front

    A 2-door convertible, called the Punto Cabrio Bertone, which means you could put the roof down!

Engines for the First Punto

The first generation Punto had different engine options, giving drivers a choice of power.

Petrol Engines

  • 1.1 8V: This engine had 40 kW (55 hp).
  • 1.2 8V: This came in two power levels: 44 kW (60 hp) and 55 kW (73 hp).
  • 1.2 16V: A more powerful version with 63 kW (85 hp).
  • 1.4 8V Turbo: This engine was turbocharged, giving it more power at 96 kW (130 hp) or 98 kW (133 hp).
  • 1.6 8V: This engine offered 65 kW (88 hp).

Diesel Engines

  • 1.7 D: A diesel engine with 42 kW (57 hp).
  • 1.9 TD: A turbo diesel engine with 47 kW (63 hp) or 51 kW (70 hp).

The Second Fiat Punto (1999-2011)

The second generation Fiat Punto, known as the Type 188, was introduced in 1999. This version brought new designs and updated technology. It was also the first Fiat car to celebrate the company's 100th birthday!

Models of the Second Punto

The second Punto continued to offer different body styles:

    A 5-door hatchback.

  • 2010 Fiat Punto Classic

    A 5-door hatchback after a design update (called a facelift).

  • Punto3

    A 3-door hatchback after its facelift.

Engines for the Second Punto

The second generation also had a range of engines, including new diesel options.

Petrol Engines

  • 1.2 8V: An engine with 44 kW (60 hp).
  • 1.2 16V: A more powerful 1.2-liter engine with 59 kW (80 hp).
  • 1.4 16V: This engine produced 77 kW (95 hp).
  • 1.8 16V: The most powerful petrol option at 96 kW (131 hp).

Diesel Engines

  • 1.3 Multijet 16V: A modern diesel engine with 51 kW (69 hp).
  • 1.9 D 8V: A diesel engine with 44 kW (60 hp).
  • 1.9 JTD 8V: A turbo diesel engine with 59 kW (80 hp) or 63 kW (86 hp).
  • 1.9 Multijet 8V: Another powerful diesel option at 74 kW (101 hp).

BiPower Engines

  • 1.2 Natural Power 8V CNG: This engine could run on both petrol and compressed natural gas (CNG), producing 51 kW (69 hp).

The Third Fiat Punto (2005-2018)

The third generation of the Fiat Punto was launched in 2005. It was initially called the Grande Punto, meaning "Big Punto," because it was larger than previous models. Later, it was also known as the Punto Evo and simply Punto again.

This generation also came in different body styles, often with updated looks:

  • 2008 Fiat Grande Punto Sport

    A sporty 3-door hatchback, known as the Grande Punto.

  • Fiat Grande Punto rear

    A 5-door hatchback version of the Grande Punto.

  • 2010 Punto Evo 5door

    A 5-door hatchback, called the Punto Evo, which had a refreshed design.

  • Punto Evo 1.3 Multijet II 95 HP

    A 3-door hatchback version of the Punto Evo.

Engines for the Third Punto

The third generation featured new engine technologies, including "MultiAir" and "T-Jet" engines for better performance and fuel efficiency.

Petrol Engines

  • 1.2 8V: An engine with 48 kW (65 hp).
  • 1.4 8V: This engine produced 57 kW (78 hp).
  • 1.4 StarJet 16V: A more advanced engine with 70 kW (95 hp).
  • 1.4 MultiAir 16V: This engine used special MultiAir technology for 77 kW (105 hp).
  • 1.4 T-Jet 16V: A turbocharged engine with 88 kW (120 hp).
  • 1.4 MultiAir Turbo 16V: A powerful turbocharged MultiAir engine with 99 kW (135 hp).

Diesel Engines

  • 1.3 Multijet 16V: Diesel engines with 55 kW (75 hp) and 66 kW (90 hp).
  • 1.3 Multijet II 16V: Updated diesel engines with 55 kW (75 hp) and 70 kW (95 hp).

  • 1.9 Multijet 8V: Powerful diesel options with 88 kW (120 hp) and 96 kW (130 hp).

BiPower Engines

  • 1.4 Natural Power 8V CNG: This engine could run on petrol and compressed natural gas, offering 51-57 kW (69-78 hp).
  • 1.4 8V LPG: An engine that could use petrol and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), producing 57 kW (78 hp).
