Filandia Elisa Pizzul (sometimes spelled Finlandia) was a very important Argentinian architect. She was born on May 22, 1902, and passed away in 1987. She made history by becoming the first woman to graduate from an architecture school in Argentina.

Filandia also played a big role in setting up the library for the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Buenos Aires. She was its very first director, and today, a room there is named in her honor!

Filandia Pizzul was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She achieved a major milestone in 1927. She graduated from the School of Architecture at the University of Buenos Aires. This made her the first woman in Argentina to become a qualified architect.

Her Career in Architecture

In 1928, Filandia began her professional journey. She started working as an assistant for public works. This was for the Nursing Advisory Commission and National Hospital. She was the first woman to work in this important organization.

Throughout her career, she held many significant positions. She was the Director General of Conservation Workshops for the Ministry of Public Health. She also served as the Conservation Director General for the Ministry of Public Works. Later, she became an advisor to the National Director of Architecture.

Filandia as a Pilot

Beyond architecture, Filandia had another amazing skill: she was a pilot! In 1928, she took a university course in Civil Aeronautics. She earned her pilot's license, becoming pilot No. 181.

She was very involved in aviation. She helped start and became president of the University Aviation Center. She was also a founding member of the Argentina Chamber of Aeronautics. Plus, she helped create the Argentine Albatros Gliding Club.

Filandia even helped design the plans for Aeroparque Jorge Newbery. This is a major airport in Buenos Aires.

Her Work in Education

Filandia Pizzul also contributed a lot to education. She organized the library at the Faculty of Architecture. This is part of the University of Buenos Aires. She became the library's first director. Because of her hard work, a room in the faculty is now named after her.
