Early life
Fiona O'Shaughnessy was born in Galway, Ireland. Her father worked with computers. Her mother was a seamstress, someone who sews clothes. When Fiona was 9 years old, her family moved to Reading in England.
About ten years later, she returned to Galway. There, she began her acting career in theatre. At age 24, she moved to Dublin to continue acting.

Stage performances
One of Fiona's first big stage roles was playing Salome. This was for the Gate Theatre in Dublin. She also performed in The Shaughraun at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. This play later moved to the West End in London in 2005.
She also appeared in Blackwater Angel in London in 2006. For the Gate Theatre, she acted in many plays. These include Arms and the Man and The Importance of Being Earnest. She also played Cate in the first Irish showing of Blasted.
