Fire staff facts for kids
A fire staff is a special kind of stick, usually made from wood or metal. It has a strong, heat-resistant material called Kevlar attached to one or both ends. When lit, these ends create flames. Fire staffs are used by performers for exciting shows called fire performance.

How to Spin a Fire Staff
There are two main ways to spin a fire staff:
- Rotational style: The performer uses their hands to control how the staff moves and spins. It's all about quick hand movements.
- Contact style: The performer rolls the staff over different parts of their body, like their arms, legs, or back. It looks like the staff is moving on its own!
Performers often use both styles in their shows. Another cool trick is staff juggling, where someone throws and catches three fire staffs at once.
Building a Fire Staff
Fire staffs come in many sizes and designs. They can be short, about half a meter long, or very long, over two meters. Unlike a fire knive, a fire staff is balanced right in the middle.
Most fire staffs have two wicks, one on each end, that are the same size. But some staffs might have more wicks, or the wicks might be placed unevenly. If a staff only has fire on one end, it's usually called a fire spear or fire spade. These are used in different ways than a fire staff.
The Amazing Dragonstaff
The Dragonstaff is a super cool type of fire staff. It has special crosses with three, four, or even more wicks on each end. This design makes the staff spin with a lot of power. When a Dragonstaff spins, it creates amazing patterns of fire!
Like a contact staff, the Dragonstaff rolls over the performer's body. But it needs different skills because its fiery ends are bigger. The extra spin from these ends makes it move in a unique way.

The Fiery Burnoff Trick
A burnoff is a spectacular trick that fire staff performers do. When the staff spins very fast, extra fuel from the wicks sprays out. This creates two big fireballs that look awesome! There are different ways to do a burnoff, like the 'circular burnoff' or the 'helix burnoff'.
