First Vienna F.C. 1894 is a famous football club from Austria. It's super old, started way back in 1894, making it the oldest football club in the whole country! People in Austria often just call it Vienna. This club has a really important place in Austria's football story.

The Story of First Vienna F.C.

How the Club Started

The First Vienna F.C. began with English and Austrian gardeners. They worked for a person named Nathaniel Anselm von Rothschild. These gardeners loved playing football on his land.

To stop them from damaging his gardens, Rothschild gave them their own special playing field. He also gave them yellow and blue uniforms. These yellow and blue colours are still used by the club today!

First Match and Early Success

The team played its very first game on November 15, 1894. They played against the Vienna Cricket and Football Club. First Vienna lost that match 4-0.

The club had its best times in the 1920s and 1930s. They won many important games and became very well known.

During World War II

From 1938 to 1945, Austria was controlled by Nazi Germany. During this time, First Vienna was part of a league called the Gauliga Ostmark. This was a special football league set up during the war.

In 1943, the club won the German Cup. This was a big achievement during a difficult time.

Later Years and Today

In the 1940s and 1950s, First Vienna usually finished in the middle of the league table. In the 1980s, the club sometimes played in the top league and sometimes in the second league.

In 1992, they were moved down to a lower league. Today, they play in the second division of Austrian football. They are working hard to stay in that league and not drop down further.

The home ground for First Vienna is the Hohe Warte Stadium. It was built in 1924, making it one of the oldest stadiums still used today.

A Historic Venue

In the 1920s and 1930s, the Hohe Warte Stadium was a very important place. It was where the Austrian national team played many of its matches.

A huge crowd of 85,000 people came to watch a match against Italy in 1923! That's a lot of fans!

Unique Design

The stadium is located in the Döbling area of Vienna. It's built on the side of a hill. This makes the stadium look like a natural amphitheatre, which is a cool and unique design.
