Website Firstenburg Family Fountain, Washington State University Vancouver

The Firstenburg Family Fountain is a cool outdoor fountain. You can find it in a plaza right in the middle of the Washington State University Vancouver (WSUV) campus. This campus is located in Vancouver, Washington, in the United States.

About the Firstenburg Fountain

This special fountain was made possible by a generous gift from Ed and Mary Firstenburg. They donated $500,000 to help create it. The fountain is built with strong, natural stone called basalt. It has tall columns and flat slabs of this stone. The Firstenburg family has actually donated several fountains like this one around Vancouver.

Design and Recognition

The Firstenburg Family Fountain is quite eye-catching! It features rough, natural basalt stones. There are also many places to sit nearby, so people can relax and enjoy the view. In 2001, the fountain even won a "Community Pride Design Award." This award celebrates designs that make a community look better and feel more welcoming.

Hal Dengerink, who was the first leader of WSU Vancouver, said the fountain would be a lasting gift. He felt it would be a permanent reminder of the Firstenburg family's kindness and their support for the university.

Gatherings at the Fountain

The plaza where the fountain is located is a popular spot for students and visitors. In 2011, students gathered there to share their thoughts about increases in tuition fees. Tuition is the money students pay to attend college. The plaza has also been a place where people have gathered to express their views on different topics.
