Park History and Establishment
Fish Creek State Park became a public park in 2010. Before that, the land was owned by a timber company.
How the Park Land Was Protected
The state of Montana bought the land for the park from an organization called The Nature Conservancy. This happened in 2010. The Nature Conservancy is a group that works to protect important natural areas.
The land was part of a much bigger project called the Montana Legacy Project. In 2008, The Nature Conservancy and another group, The Trust for Public Land, bought a huge amount of land. They bought about 310,000 acres from a company called Plum Creek Timber. This company was selling off a lot of its land. The goal of the project was to protect these lands. It also made sure people could still use them for outdoor activities.
