The Fish River is a river in Baldwin County, Alabama. It is about 28.9-mile-long (46.5 km). The river starts near Stapleton and flows into Weeks Bay in Magnolia Springs.
French settlers first named the river Riviere Aux Poissons. This name means "Fish River" in English. The river mostly flows through quiet, rural areas. You can find it under major roads like US Highway 31, Interstate 10, and US Highway 90.

Nature and Wildlife
The Weeks Bay Foundation owns the Wiese Family Nature Preserve. This preserve protects the northern part of the Fish River and its natural areas. Many animals live along the river.
Amazing Animals
You might see bald eagles along the Fish River. These eagles had disappeared from Alabama. But now, they have made a great comeback, and some even nest along the river. Other birds, like vultures, also use certain areas near the river for roosting.
Unique Plants
A special area called a pitcher plant bog is next to the Fish River. This bog is home to 91 different kinds of plants. It's a very diverse place!
Fish and Water
Both freshwater and saltwater fish live in the Fish River. Freshwater fish are found in the upper parts of the river. Closer to Weeks Bay, you can find saltwater fish. These include flounder, redfish, and speckled trout. Sometimes, small grass shrimp are found in the river. These shrimp are known to be excellent bait for fishing.
River Flow and Tides
The Fish River is connected to the Mobile Bay tidal system. This means the water level in the river changes with the ocean tides. The water level usually goes up and down by about 1 to 1.5 feet.
