Fishing Lake is a beautiful lake found in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It's located between two main roads, Highway 5 and Highway 16. You can find it about 22 kilometers (14 miles) north of Foam Lake, Saskatchewan and 24 kilometers (15 miles) east of Wadena, Saskatchewan.
This freshwater lake is famous for its really big fish! Anglers often catch some of the largest Pickerel (also known as Walleye) and Northern Pike (or Jackfish) in the world here.
Because Fishing Lake doesn't have a natural way for water to flow out, it can sometimes experience flooding. After a big flood in 2007, there was a plan to dig a channel to lower the lake's water level. However, the Fishing Lake First Nation preferred a different solution. Instead, special walls called berms were built to help control the water and protect the surrounding areas from floods.
Fishing Lake Park: Fun by the Water
Along the shores of Fishing Lake, you'll find Fishing Lake Park. This is a regional park, which means it's a special area managed for recreation and nature. The park was started in 1967, and it offers many fun activities for everyone.
The park has five main areas where people can enjoy the lake and its surroundings:
- Chorney Beach: A great spot for swimming and relaxing by the water.
- Leslie Beach: Another popular beach area, perfect for families.
- Saskin Beach: Offers more opportunities for enjoying the lake.
- Pavilion Beach: Often has facilities like picnic areas and shelters.
- Foam Lake Golf and Country Club: A place where you can play golf with views of the lake.
These different locations make Fishing Lake Park a wonderful destination for outdoor adventures, whether you like swimming, fishing, or golfing!
