Fitchburg is a small, unincorporated community located in Estill County, Kentucky, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
History
Fitchburg got its name from two brothers, Frank and Fred Fitch. In 1869, these brothers started a special factory called a blast furnace right here. A blast furnace is a big oven used to melt metal from rocks called ore.
A post office was opened in Fitchburg in 1870. This made it easier for people to send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years until it closed down in 1955.
