About Sir Fitzroy's Life
Sir Fitzroy went to a famous school called Harrow School. After finishing school, he joined the army as an officer.
In November 1910, he changed his last name. He dropped "Lloyd" and added his wife's family names, "Gough-Calthorpe." So, his name became Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe.
Before the First World War began, he was a part-time officer, a Lieutenant, in the Army Motor Reserve. During the war, in September 1915, he became an ADC. An ADC is an officer who helps a senior military leader. He finished the war as a Captain.
Later, on July 1, 1929, he was given the special title of Baronet. This meant he became the 1st Baronet of his family line.
His Family Background
Sir Fitzroy was the son of Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Hamilton Lloyd-Anstruther. His mother was Gertrude Louisa Georgina FitzRoy. His parents got married on July 5, 1871.
He had a brother named Reginald, who sadly passed away when he was a child. He also had a sister, Rosalind Gertrude. She married Brigadier General Noel Armar Lowry-Corry.
Marriage and Children
On October 11, 1898, FitzRoy Lloyd-Anstruther (as he was known then) married the Honourable Rachel Gough-Calthorpe. She was the daughter of Augustus Gough-Calthorpe, who was the 6th Baron Calthorpe.
Sir Fitzroy and Rachel had three children:
- Sir Richard Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe, 2nd Baronet: He became the 2nd Baronet after his father. He married Nancy Moireach Malcolmson.
- Frances Jean Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe: She was born on June 29, 1910. She married Frank Alleyne Stockdale in September 1942.
- Barbara Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe: She was born on October 24, 1911, and passed away on December 30, 2006. She married Ian St John Lawson-Johnston in February 1932.
