Fitzroy Xpress facts for kids
Fitzroy Xpress is a cool band from a faraway place in Australia called Fitzroy Crossing. They play a special kind of music called Aboriginal country rock. This band is made up of Indigenous musicians from the Kimberley region.
How the Band Started
The band members first got together way back in 1982. They started playing music when they were still in school!
Music and Performances
Fitzroy Xpress has played at many big events. They performed at the Stompen Ground festival in 1992, 1996, and 1998. They also played at the Fremantle Arts Festival in 1997. In 1999, they were part of a special concert in Broome called "Don't Dam the River." This band also sings some of their songs in Bunaban. This is a traditional language from the Kimberley area. Fitzroy Xpress manages themselves, which means they run their own band!
Winning Awards
Fitzroy Xpress has won some awesome awards! In 1996, at the Derby Country Music Festival, they won three awards. They were the best in the Professional Section, the Band Section, and the Songwriting Section. In 2005, the band won a very important award called a Deadly Award. They won for "Album Release of the Year" for their album Home Sweet Home. They even beat Australian Idol winner Casey Donovan for this award!

Fitzroy Xpress has been featured in documentaries. In 2005, a film called Home Sweet Home was made about them. They were also shown in an episode of a TV show called Blaktrax on SBS.
