Five Get into a Fix is an exciting children's book written by Enid Blyton. It was first published in 1958 by Hodder and Stoughton. This book is the seventeenth adventure in the popular Famous Five series.

Story

A Trip to the Mountains

The story begins with siblings Julian, Dick, and Anne. They are staying with their cousin George and her loyal dog, Timmy. All the children have coughs. To help them get better, they are sent to a farm called Magga Glen. This farm is located high up in the beautiful Welsh mountains.

A Wrong Turn and a Strange House

On their way to Magga Glen, their driver takes a wrong turn. They end up at a mysterious building called Old Towers. It sits on top of a lonely hill. They want to ask for directions, but the gates are locked. A fierce guard dog also keeps them away. As they leave, their car feels strangely heavy. It's almost as if the brakes are on. Finally, they reach Magga Glen. The owner, Glenys Jones, welcomes them warmly and gives them food.

Meeting Morgan and Aily

The next morning, the Five meet Mrs. Jones's son, Morgan. He is a very strong man with a booming voice. He doesn't say much, but he uses his loud voice to call his seven dogs. Later, the children go for a walk. Timmy, George's dog, gets into a fight with some of the farm dogs and gets bitten. George is very upset and decides they should leave the next day.

Julian and Dick explore the hills. They find a small guest house, or chalet, belonging to the farm. They also meet a young girl named Aily. She is a shepherd's daughter and has her own dog, Dave, and a pet lamb named Fany. The children decide to stay in the chalet for the rest of their holiday. This changes George's mind about leaving.

Mysteries at Night

The Five enjoy their first day in the chalet. But at night, strange things happen. They hear rumbling sounds and feel vibrations coming from the hillside. They also see a shimmering light. The next day, Julian and George are skiing. They see a woman's face in a window at Old Towers. However, the building's caretaker quickly tells them he is the only person living there.

A Secret Message

Aily becomes friends with the Famous Five. She shows them a note that was thrown from a window at Old Towers. The note is from the elderly owner, Mrs. Thomas. It says: "I want help. I am a prisoner here in my own house, while terrible things go on. They have hurt my son. Help me, help me! Bronwen Thomas."

Julian and Dick show the note to Morgan. He takes it from them and tells them not to get involved. Because of his reaction, the children start to suspect that Morgan might be involved with bad people.

Uncovering the Truth

Aily leads the Five to a secret underground tunnel. This tunnel goes all the way to Old Towers. Inside, they find Mrs. Thomas. She tells them that some bad men have taken her son, Llewellyn. She also says these men are using a special metal from under the hill to make dangerous things.

Back underground, the children see Morgan and the shepherd. They watch them working in a secret mining operation. Suddenly, the villains catch all of them! The bad guys are led by Llewellyn Thomas, Mrs. Thomas's son. Morgan manages to break free and calls his dogs. The dogs rush in and help rescue everyone.

The Villains are Caught

Back at the farm, Julian quickly calls the police. Later, Morgan returns with the shepherd. He tells everyone that the villains have been arrested and put in jail. The group then celebrates Morgan's birthday, happy that the adventure is over and the bad guys are caught.
