About Five Star Bank Plaza
The Five Star Bank Plaza is an important part of the Rochester skyline. It is mainly used for offices. The building has a large parking area with 560 spaces. Inside, there is about 380,000 square feet of space.
How the Building Was Built
Work on the building started in December 1967. The official groundbreaking ceremony happened on February 5, 1968. The building was finished and topped out on July 10, 1969. Its doors officially opened on April 15, 1970. Tishman Realty & Construction were the builders for this project. The building was updated and renovated in 1999.
Who Uses the Building?
Many different businesses and organizations use the Five Star Bank Plaza.
Radio Stations
Several popular radio stations broadcast from the 16th floor. These include 95.1 WAIO, 100.5 WDVI-FM, 1180 WHAM, 1280 WHTK, and 107.3 WNBL. These stations are all part of the iHeartMedia company.
Bank Headquarters
The building has been home to several banks over the years.
- It was first known as Marine Midland Plaza.
- In 1999, Marine Midland changed its name to HSBC. So, the building became One HSBC Plaza.
- Later, HSBC Bank USA moved out. They sold their branch to First Niagara Bank in 2012.
- In 2016, Five Star Bank moved its main regional office to Rochester. They decided to lease three floors in this building for ten years.
- Five Star Bank also opened a branch on the first floor of the plaza.
Fun Facts About the Plaza
During the holiday season, the building does something special. Some of its offices are lit up with red lights. When viewed from outside, these lights create the shape of a Christmas tree. When Five Star Bank moved in, large lighted signs with their name and logo were added to the top of the building.
