Early Life and Family

Flávia Alessandra was born in Arraial do Cabo, a city in the Rio de Janeiro state of Brazil. Her mother, Raquel, was a teacher, and her father, Hélio, was a navy commander. Flávia is the youngest of three children. She has an older sister named Keila and an older brother also named Hélio.

Flávia has two daughters. Her first daughter, Giulia Martins, was born from her marriage to Marcos Paulo. They divorced in 2002. Later, in 2006, Flávia married Otaviano Costa, and they have a daughter named Olívia Costa.

Portuguese Roots

Flávia Alessandra also has Portuguese citizenship. This is because her grandfather, on her father's side, was from Ponte de Lima, a town in Portugal.

Starting Her Career

Flávia Alessandra began her acting career on television in 1989. Her first role was in a telenovela called Top Model. She also took part in a TV competition show, Domingão do Faustão, where she won first place. Two other well-known actresses, Adriana Esteves and Gabriela Duarte, came in second and third. All three of them ended up acting in the Top Model telenovela.

Becoming a Main Star

In 2001, Flávia got her first main role in a telenovela. She played Lívia Proença de Assunção in Porto dos Milagres. This show was created by famous writers Aguinaldo Silva and Ricardo Linhares. The next year, in 2002, she played another main character, Lívia, in O Beijo do Vampiro.

In 2005, Flávia took on a different kind of role. She played the villain, Cristina, in the popular telenovela Alma Gêmea. This show was very successful and had a large audience in Brazil.

More Popular Roles

From 2006 to 2007, Flávia played Vanessa in Pé na Jaca. This show became so popular that it even inspired a line of clothes and accessories for women. In 2007, she worked with Aguinaldo Silva again, playing Alzira in Duas Caras.

In 2009, Flávia was the main star in Caras & Bocas, acting alongside Malvino Salvador. She returned to TV in 2011 for Morde & Assopra, where she played two different characters: a human named Naomi and a robot also named Naomi. In 2012, she starred in the prime-time telenovela Salve Jorge as Érika.

Later, in 2014, she played Heloísa, the mother of the main character Líli, in Além do Horizonte. In 2016, she played the main villain, Sandra, in Êta Mundo Bom!. More recently, in 2020, she appeared in Salve-se Quem Puder as Helena Furtado Santamarina. In 2024, she made a special appearance as herself in Família é Tudo.
