The flag of Belize is a very important symbol for the country. It shows Belize's history and its journey to becoming an independent nation. This flag was created from an earlier design. That design was used when Belize was called British Honduras. This was the name for Belize when the British ruled the country.
The flag is mostly royal blue. In the middle, it has a white circle. Inside this circle is the national coat of arms. This special symbol is held by two people, one white and one black. Around them are fifty mahogany leaves. The mahogany tree is very important to Belize. The top and bottom edges of the flag have two red stripes.
What Do the Colors Mean?
The colors on the flag are not just for decoration. They represent the country's main political parties. The blue color stands for the People's United Party (PUP). This party has played a big role in Belize's history. The red color represents the United Democratic Party (Belize) (UDP). Both parties have helped shape Belize.
