What is Flesk Castle?
Flesk Castle is an old country house in County Kerry, Ireland. It is also known by other names, like Coltsmann’s Castle or Glenflesk Castle. This grand house was built in a special style called Gothic Georgian. This means it had the dramatic and decorative look of Gothic buildings, but also the balanced and elegant design of Georgian architecture.
The house was built for a man named John Coltsmann. Construction started in 1809 and finished in 1815.
Who Lived in Flesk Castle?
For many years, Flesk Castle was home to the Coltsmann family and their relatives. They lived there through the early 1900s.
Later, in the early 20th century, the castle was sold. Major John McGillycuddy bought the property. The house was used until the 1940s. Around 1950, parts of the house were taken down, leaving only the outer walls standing as a ruin.
In 2005, the O’Reilly family bought the land where Flesk Castle stands.
