The Story of Flipper's New Adventure
This movie follows the adventures of Sandy Ricks (Luke Halpin) and his amazing dolphin friend, Flipper.
Sandy's Big Escape
Sandy is told he has to leave his home because a new highway is being built. He doesn't want his beloved pet dolphin, Flipper, to be taken away from him. So, Sandy decides to run away from home. He takes their small motorboat, called a skiff, and heads towards the Bahamas.
Stranded on an Island
On his journey, Sandy runs out of food, water, and gas. Luckily, Flipper is there to help! Flipper tows the boat to an island that looks empty. Sandy finds a cave to hide from search planes. He also finds food and fresh water.
Unexpected Guests
While exploring, Sandy sees a British family, the Hopewells, being taken hostage. The mother, Julia (Helen Cherry), and her two daughters, Gwen (Francesca Annis) and Penny (Pamela Franklin), are forced into a small boat. They are told to row to the very island where Sandy is hiding!
Helping the Hopewells
The Hopewell family struggles to find food. Sandy, with Flipper's help, secretly brings them fish, matches, and other useful items. He does this without being seen by the bad guys.
A New Friendship
One day, Sandy accidentally meets Penny, the younger Hopewell daughter. They quickly become friends. Sandy shows Penny around his island paradise. He teaches her how to open coconuts, make fires, and weave fishing nets. Sandy also secretly helps Penny and her family.
A Tricky Situation
Sandy worries that if rescuers find the Hopewells, he and Flipper will be discovered. He fears they will be forced to return home and separated. So, Sandy sends Flipper to put out the Hopewells' rescue fire. Penny gets upset and tells Sandy to stay away. Sandy tries to make up for it by leaving them more food and supplies.
The Rescue Plan
Soon, the bad guys return for the Hopewell family. They force Mr. Hopewell (Tom Helmore) to radio the Coast Guard and say his family is being held hostage. Sandy and Flipper come up with a brave plan to rescue everyone.
Sandy distracts the bad guys by releasing cans of food into the water. One of the bad guys goes to get them in a rowboat. Flipper tips the boat over and bumps the bad guy, knocking him out. Sandy and Flipper hide him in a cave.
Sandy uses clever tricks to get the other two bad guys into the water. The second one is captured just like the first. The leader fights hard with a knife, trying to escape Flipper. Flipper is very brave and manages to overcome him. Sandy ties the leader to the boat.
Flipper's Injury and Recovery
During the fight, the leader stabs Flipper near his tail. Flipper is washed up on the beach, bleeding and hurt. Sandy is very sad and holds his injured friend. Mr. Hopewell radios for a vet.
Flipper is taken to the Miami Seaquarium to get better. Sandy's dad, Porter (Brian Kelly), returns and shares exciting news: he's been assigned as a Park Ranger for the Coral Key Marine Preserve! This means Sandy and Flipper can stay together in their beloved ocean home.
