Florencia is a special area called a district in Costa Rica. It's part of the San Carlos region, which is in the Alajuela province.

Where is Florencia?

Florencia is in the northern part of Costa Rica. It shares borders with several other areas. To the north, it borders the Cutris district. To the west, you'll find the La Tigra district and part of the San Ramón area. East of Florencia are the Quesada and La Palmera districts. To the south, it borders the Zarcero area.

The main town in Florencia is also called Florencia. It's about 9.7 kilometers (a 22-minute drive) northwest of Ciudad Quesada. It's also about 116 kilometers (a 2-hour, 32-minute drive) northwest of San José, which is the capital city of Costa Rica.

What is Florencia's Geography Like?

Florencia covers an area of about 198.54 square kilometers. The average height above sea level is 225 meters. However, the land can range from 100 meters to 600 meters high.

This difference in height happens because the southern part of the district has mountains. These are the foothills of the Central Mountain Range. As you go north, the land slopes down towards the flat plains of San Carlos.
