Florencio Sánchez is a small city in southwestern Uruguay. It is located in the Colonia Department, right on the border with the Soriano Department. This city is like a southern extension of the nearby city of Cardona. It is named after a famous Uruguayan writer and politician, Florencio Sánchez. More than 3,700 people live in Florencio Sánchez.

This city sits at an important crossroads. It is where two main roads meet: Route 2 and Route 12. Route 102 connects Florencio Sánchez to the city of Rosario, which is to the south. Route 2 leads to other important cities like Mercedes and Fray Bentos. These are the capital cities of the Soriano and Río Negro departments.
How Florencio Sánchez Grew Over Time
Florencio Sánchez wasn't always a city. On October 2, 1929, it was officially recognized as a "Pueblo," which means a village or small town. Before that, it was known as the main center of the "Puntas de San Juan" judicial area.
Later, on May 3, 1984, its status was upgraded to "Villa," meaning a larger town. Finally, on November 24, 1995, it became a "Ciudad," which means a city. This shows how the community grew and became more important over the years.
