About the Monument's History

This monument was created by a sculptor named Allen George Newman. A sculptor is an artist who makes statues. He designed it in 1914. The monument was officially shown to the public on October 26, 1915.

The company that made the statue was Jno. Williams, Inc.. They are called the "founder" in this case. The company that built it was McNeel Marble Works. In 1992, a group called "Save Outdoor Sculpture!" checked the monument. This group is part of the Smithsonian Institution, a famous museum and research center. They said the monument needed some care. The words on the monument say it was supported by the Florida group of the United Confederate Veterans. Efforts to Move the Monument
