Park History

This park has a neat history! It started many years ago.

How the Park Began

Back in 1947, a businessman named Harrison Miller suggested creating a park in this area. It used to be a flat piece of land near a millpond. The Village of Flushing worked with donations from Bernard Bueche to make the park happen.

The first concrete bandstand was built in the late 1940s. The Flushing Chamber of Commerce helped build it. When it was first made, it didn't have a roof.

Fun Features Added

A swimming pool, called Tucker Memorial Pool, was opened on July 1, 1956. This pool was built with money given to the city. The money came from the will of Max Dealton Tucker, who was born in Flushing.

In 1976, for the 200th birthday of the United States, the Flushing Bicentennial Walkway was finished. This walkway is a special part of Riverview Park.

In 1994, with help from the community, a roof was added to the bandstand. This made it much better for performances!

On July 31, 2013, the amphitheater got a big upgrade. Almost $200,000 was spent to install 440 new seats. These new seats replaced the old wooden benches. The Rotary Club of Flushing helped lead this big project.
