Fogama'a Crater (which is Fogāma'a in the Samoan language) is a special valley shaped like a bowl on Tutuila Island in American Samoa. It's located just north of a place called Larsen Bay. This amazing crater is part of the village of Futiga, right below Logotala Hill.

The Fogama'a Crater is a very important natural landmark. It covers about 485 acres and was officially recognized in 1972. It's not only beautiful but also very important for understanding the Earth's history. It shows us the most recent signs of volcano activity in American Samoa. This makes it one of the few places where you can see how volcanoes shaped the land here not too long ago.

The crater sits right next to Larsen Bay. This bay has two smaller, pretty coves inside it: Fagalua and Fogama'a. Fogama'a Cove is a quiet and lovely beach, perfect for relaxing. Larsen Bay is also a busy home for many different kinds of seabirds that come here to breed.

The Fogama'a Crater National Natural Landmark is also close to Fagatele Bay. It even includes Steps Point, which is the southernmost tip of all U.S. territory.

Long ago, the village of Vaitogi used to be located right inside Fogama'a Crater. The people living there found the soil very rich, which was great for farming. They also had plenty of animals to hunt for food.

However, towards the end of the 1800s, families started to move away from the crater. They found it easier to connect with other villages if they lived closer to them. The current location of Vaitogi village was much better for walking to other communities. Even today, people from Vaitogi often visit Fogama'a Crater to enjoy its beautiful beach and bay.
