|} The Fokker 70 is a special airplane known for being one of the fastest planes made by the Dutch company Fokker. It's a regional jet, which means it's built for shorter flights between cities. This aircraft has two engines and is a smaller version of the Fokker 100. It holds a unique place in history as the very last airplane model that Fokker ever built.

What is the Fokker 70?

The Fokker 70 is a narrow-body aircraft, meaning its main body is not very wide. It uses two turbofan engines, which are a type of jet engine that helps the plane fly fast and efficiently. It's designed to carry passengers on flights that aren't too long, connecting different regions.

Design and Features

The Fokker 70 looks a lot like its bigger sibling, the Fokker 100. It has a "T-tail" design, where the horizontal part of the tail is placed on top of the vertical part. The wings are set low on the body of the plane. Inside, it's designed to be comfortable for passengers, even though it's a smaller jet.

History of the Fokker 70

The Fokker company, based in the Netherlands, decided to create the Fokker 70 to offer a smaller option for airlines. They wanted a plane that could serve routes with fewer passengers than the larger Fokker 100.

First Flight and Production

The very first Fokker 70 took to the skies on 4 April 1993. After successful tests, it was ready for use. The first company to use it was Ford Motor Company in October 1994, for private flights. Then, in 1995, an airline called Sempati Air started using it for commercial passenger flights.

Fokker built these planes from 1992 to 1997. In total, 47 Fokker 70 planes were made, plus one prototype plane used for testing.

Who Used the Fokker 70?

Many airlines around the world have used the Fokker 70. Some well-known ones include KLM Cityhopper (from the Netherlands) and Austrian Airlines. Today, the main airline still using the Fokker 70 is Alliance Airlines. Other airlines like Air Niugini also fly them.

Why is the Fokker 70 Important?

The Fokker 70 is important because it was the last aircraft model produced by the famous Fokker company. Fokker had a long history of building airplanes, and the Fokker 70 marked the end of an era for them. Even though production stopped in 1997, many Fokker 70 planes are still flying today, showing how well they were built.
