Food and Drink was a popular British TV show shown on BBC Two. It first aired in 1982 and ran until 2002. This show was special because it was the first national TV program in the UK to talk about food and drinks without actually showing people how to cook recipes. Instead, it explored different topics about food.

The Story of Food and Drink TV Show
The Food and Drink show started in 1982. It was different from other food shows because it didn't focus on cooking. Instead, it explored interesting facts about food and drinks.
Early Days of the Show
The very first episodes were presented by Simon Bates and Gillian Miles. A famous wine expert, Jilly Goolden, also made her first regular TV appearances on the show. She helped people learn about different kinds of wine.
Another presenter, Russell Harty, visited amazing restaurants across Britain. He showed viewers what made these places special. The show also had a cool idea: a small group of 20 people called "tasters and testers." They would try different foods and drinks and share their opinions.
Even though the first series was shown in the summer, it was very popular. About 1.5 million people watched it every week. This was a really good number for BBC Two back in the 1980s.
Later Presenters and Spin-offs
As the show continued, new presenters joined. These included Chris Kelly and chef Michael Barry. Jilly Goolden continued as a wine expert, and Oz Clarke also became a well-known wine expert on the show.
The show even had a fun spin-off game called Food and Drink Summer Quiz. This quiz show aired in 1987 when the main show was on its summer break.
The Show Returns: Revival Series
After some years, Food and Drink came back to BBC Two. The new version, sometimes called Food & Drink, started on 4 February 2013. It was hosted by Michel Roux Jr and Kate Goodman.
A special Christmas episode aired in December 2013. Then, a second series followed in early 2014. The show returned for a third series in 2015. For this series, Tom Kerridge took over from Michel Roux Jr as the main presenter. Joe Wadsack replaced Kate Goodman.
