Foraker is a small, unincorporated community located in Elkhart County, Indiana. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's part of a larger area, in this case, Union Township.
Foraker's Story: A Look Back
Foraker began its story in 1892. It was founded when the Wabash Railroad built its tracks through this area. Railroads were very important back then for travel and moving goods.
The community was named after Joseph B. Foraker. He was a famous politician who served as the 37th Governor of Ohio. A governor is like the main leader of a state.
For many years, Foraker had its own post office. However, the post office closed down in 1966.
