A Look Back in Time

Forks of Salmon started as a busy settlement during the exciting time of the California Gold Rush. This was in the mid-1800s when many people rushed to California hoping to find gold.

Back then, Forks of Salmon was part of a different area called Klamath County, California. That county doesn't exist anymore. The community has had its own post office for a very long time, starting on September 30, 1858. There was only a short break from October 16, 1871, to August 28, 1872, when it didn't have one.
