The Fort Leavenworth Military Prison Cemetery is a special burial ground. It is also known as the United States Disciplinary Barracks Cemetery. This cemetery is located at Fort Leavenworth in Leavenworth County, Kansas.

Its main purpose is to bury soldiers who passed away while at the United States Disciplinary Barracks. This is a military prison. The cemetery holds the bodies of soldiers whose families did not claim them.

About the Cemetery

This cemetery is the final resting place for 298 soldiers. Out of these, 58 graves do not have headstones. This means they are "unmarked graves." Most of the soldiers buried here died between 1898 and 1905.

The last known burial happened in 1957. Before that, the last burial was ten years earlier. The U.S. military does not plan to have more burials here. This is because families are expected to claim the bodies of soldiers who pass away.

Special Burials

In one part of the cemetery, there is a special section. This section holds the graves of fourteen German prisoners of war. These prisoners were buried here in 1945. They had been held at the military prison.
