A Look Back at Fostoria's History
Fostoria has an interesting history. A long time ago, a man named Henry H. Crapo owned most of the pine forests in this area. He was once the Michigan Governor, which is like the leader of the state.
Governor Crapo had a train line, called the Pere Marquette Railway, built through Fostoria. The community got its name in 1881. It was named after Thomas Foster, who was Governor Crapo's foreman. A foreman is a person who supervises workers.
Fostoria had its first post office for a short time. It opened in July 1882 and closed in May 1883.
