Foundry (bar) facts for kids
The Foundry was a special place in Shoreditch, London. It was a building that served as both a bar and a venue for different events. You could find it on Great Eastern Street, near Old Street.
Jonathan and Tracey Moberly owned and ran The Foundry. Bill Drummond, who was famous for being part of a music group called The KLF, also helped to set up this unique spot.
What Was The Foundry?
The Foundry was known as a lively place where people could gather. It was more than just a bar; it was a center for creativity. Many different kinds of events took place there.
A Hub for Creativity
The basement of The Foundry was a busy spot. It hosted many exciting events. People could enjoy art shows, live music performances, and poetry readings. It was a place where artists and performers could share their work.
The Foundry also had its own radio show. It was called the foundry late late breakfast show. This show was broadcast live every week from The Foundry on Resonance 104.4 FM.
The End of an Era
Sadly, The Foundry closed its doors in 2010. The owner of the building had plans to change the entire block. They wanted to build a large hotel with 350 rooms.
After The Foundry closed, its manager looked for a new place. They hoped to open a similar venue nearby. The Foundry is remembered as an important part of the Shoreditch art scene.
