Frías is a city in Argentina. It is located in the southwest part of the Santiago del Estero province. The city is also close to the border of Catamarca. Frías is the main city of the Choya Department. It sits by the Albigasta River.

Frías was officially founded on September 24, 1874. Before it became a planned city, it was known as Villa Únzaga. At that time, it was mainly a stop for trains.

Population and Growth

In 2010, Frías had about 26,649 people living there. This was a big increase from 1999, when the population was around 22,048. This growth makes Frías the third largest group of towns and cities in its province.

Frías is often called "the city of friendship." This is because people there are very welcoming to visitors. The city's population is growing partly because new businesses are starting up. These businesses are in a new industrial area near the city. They are creating many jobs and helping to improve life for the people of Frías.
